John Marks, 49, was convicted of second-degree murder and sexual assault against Kathy Adams - also known as "Psychic Kay" for the name of a local business she ran. Family members told investigators Adams was planning to leave Marks shortly before her death over repeated instances of domestic violence during their 20-year relationship.
Adams' unclothed body, with injuries from head to toe, including to her genitals, was found duct-taped inside a comforter in a ravine near the Larimer-Boulder county line near Estes Park. She was found to have died of blunt-force trauma and strangulation sometime between Oct. 9 and Oct. 11, 2010.
Family members told the Coloradoan at the time that the two had an often tumultuous relationship.
Larimer County sheriff's investigators said they tracked Marks' cell phone to the vicinity of the place Adams' body was found. He also was recorded to have purchased duct tape and work gloves, they said.
