James Davies, 35, is survived by his wife and their two children. Lakewood Police Department spokesperson Steve Davis said on Friday afternoon that Davies was wearing a uniform when he was hit by a bullet fired from another police officer's gun.
In 2000, 9NEWS interviewed Davies' wife about the difficulties she was experiencing in getting the proper paperwork to get him into the United States. The two were married in England in 1999. 9NEWS has learned that Davies initially started working for a bank when he arrived in the US, but he decided to go into law enforcement after the bank he was working for was robbed.
James Davies met his wife Tami when she came to England for a study abroad program.
Friends say James Davies had a marvelous English accent. "He was a very dedicated individual, a very family-oriented man," Davis said during Friday's news conference.
