9NEWS HOLIDAY GUIDE
What if you could save up to 50 percent? One local coupon-expert says it's possible.
Callie Washer, featured on TLC's Extreme Couponing show earlier this year, says she doesn't plan on spending more than $25 on Thanksgiving dinner for her family of five.
She reached out to 9NEWS to share some of her coupon tips.
"King Soopers is having a great deal this week. Their turkeys are $.49/pound, and that's really one of the lowest prices in town this week," she said. "At Safeway, the best deal is if you send $25 they will give you a turkey for $7.99. And the great thing about living in Denver is that Albertsons and Walmart will both price match."
Washer says opening up the weekly circulation, which comes out every Tuesday, and comparing prices can really help you save big.
"Sometimes they don't have the advertisement out on display, so pick up a circulation and look through it," Washer said. "In there this week, you can find that they are giving away [a gallon of] milk if you buy four participating items. One of the items is pie crust. A lot of people are going to be baking pies."
If you hate coupon clipping or it's just not your thing, Callie says you're not out of luck.
"So when you're in the store, look for coupons right on the items. Right now, Heinz HomeStyle Gravy has a coupon right on it. This coupon says save a dollar off of two. I'm really amazed by how many things you can save on by just by walking in the store."
Washer says to get some great deals sometimes you have to store hop.
"There's a great deal on canned veggies at Dollar General, which you wouldn't think of. They are $.45 cents and if you use the 'Save $1 off of 4 cans' that makes it $.20 cents per can, so that's a really great deal at Dollar General."
