Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning are two of the group of 15. Editors for Sports Illustrated chose the group, and the public can now vote on the magazine's Facebook page, http://on.fb.me/10k3Y6N.
It has been a wonderful whirlwind for the Franklins since returning from the London Olympics where Missy won four gold medals and a bronze medal. Last week, she was named the female athlete of the year at the Golden Goggles Awards. Michael Phelps was the male award winner. Glamour Magazine named her among a group of Women of the Year.
Missy is balancing all the accolades as she is back in training. She will be competing at nationals in Texas the weekend of Nov. 28. She is also finishing her senior year at Regis Jesuit High School.
Before the Olympics, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos invited Missy to their training facility at Dove Valley to spend the day. The team wanted to wish her well.
Manning has lead the Broncos to the top of the AFC West Division in his first season in Denver. After a neck injury sidelined him in 2011 for the Indianapolis Colts, he's thrown for 2,975 yards with 24 touchdowns.
The athlete that wins the Sports Illustrated award will be featured in the Dec. 17 issue of the magazine.
