"Although the public's interest in knowing what the University of Colorado Denver Police Department knew about Mr. Holmes is substantial, it does not outweigh the need to ensure the fairness of the trial of Mr. Holmes, at this time," Chief of Police Doug Abraham said in a letter.
9Wants to Know has requested records from campus police, including police reports and search warrants relating to Holmes.
Chief Abraham said he would reevaluate new records requests on a case-by-case basis.
After a gag-order relating to Holmes' documents was lifted previously, the University of Colorado released some records requested by media outlets, including key-card access logs.
The access logs show Holmes routinely accessed labs on the Anschutz medical campus - where he was working towards a Ph.D. in neurosciences.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 others on July 20 during a shooting rampage at an Aurora movie theater.
Holmes remains locked up at the Arapahoe County Detention Center.
