Detective John White says Denver Police were asked to assist Englewood Police in arresting the man who was wanted for burglary in that jurisdiction.
9NEWS crews on scene recorded video of the suspect breaking out the window of a hotel room and waving a gun in the air at the Budget Host Inn at 27th Avenue and Wyandot Street.
Negotiators had been in contact on and off with the man before police decided to use gas to force him out of the room at around 11:15 p.m. The suspect was arrested at that time without further incident.
The suspect was then handed over to Englewood Police who are investigating his alleged involvement in a burglary on Tuesday. Englewood Police have not returned calls for comment.
Moments after the end of the standoff CDOT reopened the exit ramps from northbound and southbound I-25 to Speer Boulevard. They had been closed for several hours while police tried to negotiate with the suspect.
Some visitors staying at the hotel were asked to evacuate during the situation.
James Gerathy, who is in town from Ohio, said he was told by police it was safe for him to stay in his room during the ordeal but he still decided to leave the hotel.
"I don't want to go home in a body bag, but it's definitely an intense situation out here," Gerathy said.
Initially, it was reported by police that the suspect was barricaded inside the Hampton Inn & Suites nearby.
The incident began shortly before 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
