Omar Dwaik, 31, was wanted for burglary in Englewood. Denver Police, who were called into assist Englewood Police with the apprehension of Dwaik, were involved in the four-hour standoff.
Dwaik's criminal history includes possession of dangerous drugs, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, making a false report and seemingly served time in prison.
9NEWS crews on scene recorded video of Dwaik breaking out the window of a hotel room on Tuesday and waving a gun in the air at the Budget Host Inn at 27th Avenue and Wyandot Street.
Negotiators had been in contact on and off with Dwaik before police decided to use gas to force him out of the room at around 11:15 p.m. Dwaik was arrested at that time without further incident.
Dwaik was then handed over to Englewood Police who are investigating his alleged involvement in a burglary on Tuesday.
Some visitors staying at the hotel were asked to evacuate during the situation.
James Gerathy, who is in town from Ohio, said he was told by police it was safe for him to stay in his room during the ordeal but he still decided to leave the hotel.
"I don't want to go home in a body bag, but it's definitely an intense situation out here," Gerathy said.
Initially, it was reported by police that Dwaik was barricaded inside the Hampton Inn & Suites nearby.
Dwaik is still in custody at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department Detention Facility.
