Patrick Smyth, Director of Media Relations with the Broncos, told 9NEWS a application was submitted to the NFL Super Bowl Advisory Committee in late August.
"Pat Bowlen has always maintained an interest in bringing the Super Bowl to this community and the great football fans of the Rocky Mountain Region," Smyth said. "He believes the city of Denver along with the Broncos would be excellent hosts."
The Super Bowl is usually held in warmer climates or at indoor stadiums.
"With the 2014 Super Bowl in New York/New Jersey, we are looking forward to observing how a cold-weather city with an outdoor stadium accommodates this extraordinary event," Smyth said.
