"I get to hold my baby. It's wonderful. It's amazing. I'm so grateful to God," Shalimar McComas said from her Aurora home on Thursday. "She's our little miracle."

Last week, the six-week old infant was struggling to live after her mother's car was suddenly struck from behind by a fast-moving SUV at South Parker Road and East Lehigh. Lizbeth Jayne, named after her two grandmothers, was in the backseat in a car seat at the time.

"I just felt something like a huge freight train behind me and then a major push," McComas explained. "It didn't stop, and then we were rolling down. When we stopped the first thing I thought was my baby. Where was my baby?"

"I had blood dripping down my face and all over my hands. I didn't care. I didn't have my shoes. I didn't have my phone to call my husband. All I could think about was my baby. Was she OK?" she added.

Lizbeth suffered, among other things, a fractured skull. This week, she was finally able to leave Children's Hospital and come home.

"Doctors feel like she's going to be 100 percent, but we will have to do checks throughout to make sure she hits her milestones," McComas said. "She has an angel watching over her. She has a great path in front of her."

Despite the nature of the crash, Shalimar McComas said she still feels for the other driver who remains hospitalized and in a coma after being ejected from his SUV. Prosecutors have yet to charge William Page III, 21, due to some extent to his severe injuries.

As for Lizbeth, soon she'll be moving from the bassinet in her parent's room and into the nursery that was painted recently by family members.

"I'm going to hold onto my faith that everything is going to be OK, McComas said.

She also wanted to make sure that she will forever remain grateful for all of the thoughts and prayers that were directed her way over the last week and a half.

"It's been overwhelming," she said.
