According to Aurora Police, around 6 a.m., a 14-year-old girl was trying to cross Colfax Avenue at Laredo Street when she was hit by a car.

The driver of the car stopped, got out and picked the girl up by her coat and put her into his car.

He then drove the girl eastbound on Colfax before making a u-turn. He drove a short distance before making a second u-turn and pulling into the parking lot of the 7-11 convenience store at Colfax Avenue and Laredo Street.

The driver of the car let the girl get out of the car and then drove away.

"The suspect didn't make any threats, really didn't make any statements, never touched her, harmed her, threatened her in any way," Aurora Officer Frank Fania said. "It appears that he truly was trying to get her help and maybe panicked and fortunately brought her right back to the 7-11, but then he drove off, which is still a crime."

The 14-year-old girl described the driver as a "skinny" black male with a short dreadlock hairstyle. The car is only being described as a dark colored sedan.

Investigators with the Aurora Police are reviewing surveillance video from the 7-11 to determine if the suspect or his vehicle can be identified.

Police believe there may have been a witness to accident at a nearby bus stop. The witness is believed to be someone who is at the bus stop at the same time most mornings. The possible witness was gone by the time police arrived.

The Aurora Police would like help in identifying the witness and are asking him to come forward. He is described as a heavy set, white male.
