Denver police say 30-year-old Jim Artis Tillmon is responsible for the death of Zewde Ali, 61, who was killed as she tried to cross Parker Road Thursday evening.
Tillmon has yet to be arrested and is wanted for failure to report an accident involving death.
According to the Department of Corrections, Tillmon was recently released from prison and is currently on parole.
Police say Tillmon attempted to bypass a line of cars stuck in rush-hour traffic by moving into the center turn lane at high rate of speed, striking Ali as she crossed south to north. Police say she may been coming from a bus stop.
Thanks to a tip police found the vehicle believed to have been involved, a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, not far from the accident in Southeast Denver around midnight.
Police say the vehicle was not registered to Tillmon. The owner of the SUV cooperated with the investigation.
Tillmon has an extensive criminal record dating back to 2003. Multiple drug violations, including distribution appear on the record pulled by 9NEWS.
