John Lucas "Luke" Edwards, 36, was at a Christmas party Saturday evening at the Westin Hotel at 10600 Westminster Boulevard in Westminster.
Police say Edwards was last seen at 3 a.m. Sunday. He was heavily intoxicated and may have wandered away from the hotel, according to police.
"For his co-workers and his friends to recognize they felt that he had drank too much potentially, leads us to have some concern that his judgment might have been affected by the amount of alcohol he could have consumed," said Westminster Police Investigator Trevor Materasso.
Edwards' girlfriend, Jamie Jue, had shown up to the room expecting Edwards to return after the party, according to text messages sent between them that night. But Jue left when he didn't show up, Materasso said.
Monday morning, Jue started calling Edwards' parents when she was concerned about him and couldn't get a hold of him, Edwards' father, Duane Fisher said.
Materasso said there's no reason to suspect the girlfriend had any role in the disappearance.
Temperatures Sunday morning were dangerously cold. Edwards never returned home and did not show up for work on Monday. Police found his truck still in the hotel parking lot on Tuesday. Edwards lives in Arvada and family reported him missing with the Arvada Police Department. Edwards' father watched divers search the body of water for his son Wednesday.
"Honestly, we just hope he will show up and walk through the front door of the hotel looking for his truck," Fisher said.
Fisher said the last cell phone signal from his son came around 10 p.m. Saturday night. He also did not have a jacket on when he may have walked outside the hotel.
"All of his clothes that he brought with him were still in the room, his hotel room," Fisher said. "His keys to his truck, everything was still in the room. The bed was never even messed up, he had never even gone to the bedroom really."
Edwards has two children, 5 and 3, from a previous relationship in Seattle. His family said he had been working with Frederick-based Mark Young Construction for a couple of years. The company paid for the Christmas party, and rooms to stay afterward, Fisher said. The party also had an open bar, he said.
Several ponds surround the hotel. The dive team from the Westminster Fire Department and Thornton Fire Department searched one of the largest ponds Wednesday morning but could not find a body. Materasso says divers are done searching the bodies of water and areas around the hotel.
"We're kind of in a holding pattern," he said.
He said Westminster detectives are working with Arvada Police to compare notes and see where to take the investigation.
Edwards is described as a 190-pound man, 6-feet-1 inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Police are asking anyone with information about Edwards' whereabouts to please call Westminster Police at 303-658-4360.
