Tonia Shetina, 38, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping and motor-vehicle theft once Essence was reported missing after almost 24 hours.
Colorado Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Medina says a tip received by police after the state agency issued an Amber Alert Wednesday led investigators to a home in the nearby town of Fountain. Essence Lovato was found safe in the home.

Colorado Springs police say Essence's mom was having an argument with her boyfriend at a home in the 400 block of Kiowa. The mother asked Shetina to take her daughter out of the residence. Colorado Springs police say Shetina was supposed to take the child to her grandfather's house, which was nearby. When the mother tried to check on her daughter the Tuesday, she realized the 2-year-old was missing.

9Wants to Know has learned that Shetina was a family acquaintance and had only known Essence's mother for two weeks.
