There were two people in the home in the 980 block of South CR 181 just before 3 a.m. on Friday when the fire broke out.

They were able to evacuate during the fire. Two dogs were rescued from the fire, but more than a dozen other dogs died in kennels. All the dogs that perished in the fire were chihuahuas. The owner of the house was a breeder. Byers, Bennet and Buckley fire districts all responded.

Firefighters said the blaze started in the back of the home. The roof caved in completely, and the floor is considered unstable.

Outreach through Arapahoe County will be helping the displaced family.
