The Colorado Bureau of Investigations says a backlog in background checks for firearms buyers is now up to several days.

The Denver Post reports the wait is so long that a clock on the background check website has reached its limit of 99 hours and 59 minutes.

The co-owner of a weekend gun show says the delay means gun dealers will have to mail firearms to customers or meet them later once the background check has cleared.

BluCore Shooting Center, which offers a variety of classes for gun owners, has seen an increase in business.

The owner of the gun shop says he has had an increase in membership, sales and the number of people coming in to train.

One of Denver's largest gun shows - the Tanner Gun Show - should boost weapon sales this weekend too. The show's owner says people who buy guns there will likely have to wait for their background checks as well, and they may end up having their purchases mailed to them.
