Aurora police responded to an armed robbery call at the Bradley gas station on 1090 N. Havana St.
Reports indicated a man entered the store armed with a handgun and robbed the clerk before running off.
Nearby officers spotted a man with a similar suspect description at East 7th Avenue and North Ironton Street When an officer tried to contact him, he ran off and into a backyard nearby.
The police officer pursued the suspect. When the man failed to comply with the officer's orders, the officer fired.
The suspect was struck and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer was not injured. A gun was recovered from the scene.
The Major Crime Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators are on scene and took over the investigation.
As per normal protocol, the officer that fired his weapon will be placed on administrative leave.
The suspect's name was not released.
