KUSA - An Indiana man will plead guilty on charges that he tricked teenagers across the county into stripping or performing sex acts on webcam, recorded them and then pressured them into making more sexually-explicit videos.
One of Finkbiner's victims is a 15-year-old boy from Fort Collins.
Federal court records this week show Richard Finkbiner has signed a plea agreement. He is expected to be sentenced to between 30 and 50 years in prison on charges including child exploitation, extortion and possessing child pornography.
Prosecutors say the case is an example of "sextortion," in which internet predators catch victims in embarrassing sexual situations online and make threats to expose them unless they create additional sexually explicit photos or videos. Many victims comply because they don't want parents, friends or employers to see the initial pictures.
Authorities in Colorado tell 9Wants to Know that thousands of local teens could be victims of similar sextortion crimes, and they believe the crime is underreported.
Prosecutors say Finkbiner used the following email addresses while blackmailing his victims: firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, and email@example.com.
