AURORA, Colorado  - Gateway High School football star Zack Golditch says this is where everything has led.

Signing his letter of intent to play football at Colorado State University is the final mark.

It's also the latest step in moving on from last summer's tragedy at the Aurora theaters that almost made today impossible.

What a day for athletes.

"It's not a typical thing that happens at this school and I think it's special and I'm humbled that I get to go to a Division 1 college out of this school." Golditch told 9NEWS.

He is headed to Colorado State to play offensive line... or maybe defensive line... he's pretty good at that too.

But his signing celebration almost never happened. Zack was shot in the neck during Aurora theater shooting last summer.

"I could've been paralyzed or died."

Centimeters made the difference and amazingly Zack didn't miss a game his senior season, barely missed a work out.

"I might have not been able to play football again, but now that's it's passed and I am able to I don't really think about it. I'm grateful for it and everything coming together, it's awesome and it's truly incredible." said Golditch.

He doesn't think about it much, and it hasn't changed him all that much either.

That's because he was already one of the hardest working guys his coach had ever seen.

Gateway Head Football coach Justin Hoffman says, "He's the same guy now that he was before. He just feels more fortunate now to have done those things."

And now, that final mark.

Moving on, from last summer, from the recruiting madness, and from his high school football career.

The best part is that he is staying in state.

"I think it's definitely cool to be raised in Colorado and to give back, in a way."
