SUMMIT COUNTY - If the sound of snow shovels and snow plows don't give it away then the reflection of snow falling in the goggles sitting in the window at Sun Logic in Breckenridge should be a clear sign that snow is once again falling in the mountains.

It's just in time because store manager Justin Stone says while a sunny January was good for selling sun glasses, it wasn't great for selling winter gear or goggles.

"Yes, sunglasses, they did well for sure. But we would like to see some goggles go," Stone said.

Breckenridge weather watcher Rick Bly says January wasn't all that great for the state's snowpack either.

"That was the third out of four months that was below average for the winter," Bly said.

In fact, according to Bly's records the entire month of January only brought a few inches of snow to downtown Breckenridge.

"We were on pace to eclipse the worst [drought] of all time, which was three inches. But, we got 6.5 inches for the month of January," Bly said.

With flakes now falling those days seem to be moving on. Just nine days into February and more snow has already fallen in Breckenridge than all of January.

"February has started and we are on average for February," Bly said.
