FORT COLLINS - Police have sealed off a portion of an east Fort Collins neighborhood while they serve a warrant.

At least 15 marked Fort Collins police and sheriff's deputy vehicles are in the area of Summit View Dr. and Locust. A sheriff's deputy on scene said the SWAT team was assisting police in searching for a robbery suspect who had been tracked to the area.

Police say the suspect tried to steal a shopping cart filled with tools and a bike from a Walmart earlier in the day.

The man fought with staff members who confronted him as he was trying to leave the store.

He fled in a car with other suspects inside. Police reviewed surveillance video and recognized the man. Police say the suspect has a criminal history, including use of a weapon.

A Coloradoan reporter standing outside the command post on Summit View Dr. was asked to move "out of the line of fire" by a sheriff's deputy in full body armor.

SWAT team members have removed a large dog from the area, securing it in the Humane Society van.
