STERLING - Northeast Colorado Emergency Management reports a coal train derailed Saturday morning, sparking several small grass fires in the area.
The Sterling Fire Department says no one was injured when the empty train derailed about 8:40 a.m.
A 9NEWS viewer submitted these photos near Sterling, Colorado.
The fire department says all of the small fires have been contained.
Highway 138 at Logan County Road 43 is temporarily closed east of Sterling as a result of the derailment. A recommended alternate route is Interstate 76.
