Metro State men and women advance to RMAC Semifinals

KUSA - The home locker rooms in the Auraria Events Center are full of smiles right now:  both of Metro State's basketball teams are advancing to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Semifinals.  

The fourth ranked men's team took down Colorado Christian 87-75 in the RMAC quarterfinals on Tuesday.  The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 25-2 overall.   Earlier in the evening, the women's team never trailed and defeated Colorado Mines 75-55.   Their win increased the women's record to 20-8 overall. 

Led by former Fairview standout Jonathan Morse, the Roadrunner men outscored CCU 26-15 over the final 7:23 to pull away from a one-point lead.   Morse, who was named the RMAC Player of the Year on Tuesday, finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Also scoring in double figures was Demetrius Miller with 20 points, Brandon Jefferson with 14 points and Nicholas Kay with 13 points.

Men's head coach Derrick Clark, who was named the RMAC Coach of the Year on Tuesday, will lead his guys into the RMAC Shootout semifinals Friday night at 7 p.m. when they host Colorado Mesa at the Auraria Events Center.

On the women's side, Metro State was powered by 18 points from Amy Nelson and 16 points from Emily Wood. Kya DeGarmo added nine off the bench. Kristin Valencia added eight.  The gals never led by less than 18 points in the second half.  

Tanya Haave will lead the Metro State women into the semifinals on Friday night against Colorado Christian.  The game will take place on the campus of Colorado Mesa at 5:30 p.m.
