JEFFERSON COUNTY - Jefferson County Sheriff investigators released new information on Tuesday they hope will catch a bold, sexual-assault suspect.
Police say the attack and assault took place on Jan. 25, around 8 a.m. in a bike tunnel underneath C-470 near Wadsworth Boulevard in southwest Jefferson County. Investigators now say the suspect may have had scratches on his neck and a tan line on his forehead.
"The victim was able to scratch him to the point where she bent back one of her fingernails," the case's lead investigator Jamie Greaser said.
Greaser also said the victim had seen the suspect riding a bike on the trail before, wearing a bike helmet, which could have given the man a tan line on his forehead.
The suspect is described as a white man, 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 to 185 pounds, with a lanky, athletic build. He had tan skin and light brown hair.
Greaser said the suspect also had heavy acne on his cheeks and wore spandex shorts and a half-zip shirt or sweater.
"Think back to when you first saw this story," Greaser said. "Do you remember seeing anybody matching this description with scratches on their neck?"
Greaser says the case is top priority for her department.
"[It was] very concerning for us that it was so public," Greaser said. "[It was] so brazen, and anybody could have walked through at any time. You can see that there's only a very short distance that you can see if anybody's coming or not and I don't think that that mattered to him."
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has set up a tip line for anyone who recognizes the man or has information about this crime at 303-271-5612. Crimestoppers is also offering a financial reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction
