DENVER - An Aurora 5th grade teacher accused in a hit-and-run that critically injured a teen was formally charged Monday.

Erin Jackson, 30, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.

The charge alleges that Jackson was driving eastbound on Colfax Avenue at about 7 a.m. Feb. 27 when she hit Deyondrah Bridgeman who was walking with the signal in the crosswalk at Colfax and Elizabeth Street.

The 16 year-old victim was seriously hurt and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. She was listed in critical condition as of March 5.

Denver Police investigators say Jackson walked into the police station on Feb. 28 at 4:30 a.m. to turn herself in.

Jackson is a fifth-grade teacher at AXL Academy, a charter school in Aurora. She has been with the school for eight months.

She is currently out of jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 15.
