KUSA - Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard joined Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and dozens of child advocates on the steps of the Colorado Capitol Monday to raise awareness for child abuse and prevention.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Woodyard spoke on behalf of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children).

More than 40 organizations, including CASA and the Tennyson Center for Children, were part of the rally, which was the kick-off for a state-wide community outreach effort to inspire child-abuse prevention in every community and every home.

The group's slogan is "Be the One" - which is a challenge to everyone to be an advocate in a child's life.

The group also planted a pinwheel garden outside the capitol to honor children who are at risk for being abused or neglected.
