HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS - A man was shot and killed after pushing his way into a home of a Grand County prosecutor and Sheriff's deputy.

Authorities say Coral, Michigan resident Joshua Stevens, 31, created a disturbance outside the couple's Hot Sulphur Springs home just before midnight Monday.

A 911 call was made by a deputy district attorney for Colorado's 14th Judicial District reporting the disturbance. Stevens then forced his way inside the home where an altercation occurred and shots were fired.

The couple - who are both armed peace-officers - shot and killed Stevens.

The prosecutor and her husband, who is a Grand County sheriff's deputy, had minor injuries.

The couples' home is a renovated motel in the 500 block of Grand Avenue.

Investigators say Stevens was acting erratically and described the altercation between the intruder and homeowners as "aggressive."

It's not known if Stevens was armed.

Authorities say, at this time, there appears to be no connection to recent shootings but have not ruled anything out.

Authorities say Stevens was in the area the past week.

As is standard procedure, the couple has been placed on administrative leave from their respective Grand County positions while the investigation into the shooting continues.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigations and critical incident teams from Grand, Rout and Moffat Counties are involved in the investigation.
