COLORADOAN - Police in Fort Collins on Saturday night broke up a large party that deteriorated into riot conditions with tear gas deployed, witnesses said.
Officers from several departments shut down Prospect Road between Shields Street and Taft Hill Road, and several loud explosions were heard shortly after 10:30 p.m. The explosions were consistent with tear gas canisters being deployed.
Hundreds of college-age students streamed from the area, and officers patrolled intersections with pepper spray in hand.
Officers told students that a party had gotten out of hand. Several students leaving the area referred to the incident as a riot.
