DENVER - Police say a 1-year-old boy was seriously injured when he fell out of a moving car Friday night. Police say the driver of the car, Ross Bobby McCoy took off, leaving his son on the road of a northeast Denver neighborhood.
Police say the car was turning from East 40th Avenue onto Lisbon Avenue when the child fell from the car. Police say the car may have also struck the boy. No other vehicle was involved.
The 1-year-old was rushed to Children's Hospital with serious head injuries. He's in stable condition.
Police say they contacted McCoy in Aurora. He faces charges of criminally negligent child abuse, and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury. Police also say his driver's license had been revoked.
McCoy has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1998. It includes arrests for domestic violence. According to court records, he was found guilty of domestic violence last year. In 2003, he was found guilty of sexual assault for sexual contact without consent. He was sentenced to a work release program.
