Papoose Fire prompts evacuations; now incorporated into West Fork Fire Complex

KUSA - Firefighters are working to contain the Papoose Fire which has prompted evacuations.

The fire moved down Little Squaw Creek drainage and went through the Little Squaw Resort but no structures were lost as of Saturday morning.

The fire is estimated at 20,000 acres with no containment as of Saturday morning.

The fire crossed FS Road 520 near the River Hill campground and is on the north side of the road in that area. The fire has not reached the 30-mile campground area at this time.

There were some air support dropping retardant near structures Friday and engines on scene to help protect structures.
San Juan Ranch and Hermit Lakes were evacuated.

The town of Creede is not under any evacuation notice at this time.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at the Gunnison Recreation Hall.

Livestock can be relocated to the Gunnison Fairgrounds.

The fire is under the management of the same crews working the West Fork Complex fire, but the Papoose Fire is not considered a part of the complex.
