KUSA - A tiny kitten named Dash met his new forever family under some traumatic circumstances.

Someone dumped the kitten out of a car along Interstate 25 near Belleview on Friday morning.

Luckily, the little cat was spotted by some very generous citizens. Karen Eisenring saw Dash on the highway and came to the rescue. She and her friend Deahna stopped traffic and were able to get Dash to safety.

"I want the person who did this caught and I'm hoping that someone was able to get the [license] plate of the person who did this," said Eisenring.

She took the kitten straight to the animal emergency room and then to a personal veterinarian. Eisenring was told the 8 to 10 week old kitten was also shot with a pellet gun, which is what caused it to sustain a pricey injury.

Dash is going to require surgery to fix its leg and put a pin in at the break. The estimated cost of the surgery is between $1,200 to $1,300.

She is also hoping to raise enough money for Dash's surgery which is set for Monday.
