EL PASO COUNTY - Flash floods developed in the Black Forest burn area Monday afternoon after heavy rain moved in to the area.

The spots affected most were along Shoup Road. A dry field in the backyard of Deb Harano's home quickly turned in to a raging river.

"It was just 30 to 40 feet across down towards the southern part there," Harano said as she pointed at the affected area. "I mean it was literally just washing stuff away".

Living in a burn zone, Harano knew something like this could happen, which is why she and her husband invested in more than 40 sand bags.

However, the water flow was too powerful and pushed the sand bags downstream.

The storm didn't last too long. The make-shift river quickly disappeared within an hour's time. Unfortunately, it left behind several feet of mud.

Power was temporarily knocked out to about Colorado Springs Utilities 2,300 customers.
