DOUGLAS COUNTY - Authorities say firefighters have found an adult's body inside a burned house in Sedalia that has been declared a total loss.
The person's identity wasn't immediately released.
The home caught on fire in the 2400 block of Highway 67 near Sedalia around 5 a.m.
Firefighters were concerned the fire would spread to a forested area surrounding the home, but crews had the fire under control by 7:40 a.m.
Douglas County sheriff's officials say a neighbor who is a volunteer firefighter reported the fire at a house along a narrow road with no fire hydrants nearby.
The Douglas County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire but say early indications don't indicate foul play.
