DENVER - An officer-involved shooting at Downing Street and East 29th Avenue Tuesday afternoon left one man dead.
According to police, they heard reports of an individual threatening people with a knife near 29th and Downing. When they found the suspect, they asked him to put down the knife.
The suspect did not put down the knife, so officers tried to use their TASER and their gas gun. Neither of those had an effect on the suspect, according to police.
At that point, the the suspect started towards officers with the knife. Police say they fired several shots around 11:32 a.m.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, according to Denver Police.
No officer was injured in the shooting.
Due to unrelated police activity at 30th Avenue and Downing Street, the D-line light rail trains are stopping at 27th and Welton streets and heading back southbound.
