Boulder confirms 4th fatality, 0 missing

BOULDER - The Boulder Office of Emergency Management confirmed Thursday another flood-related fatality.


This brings the Boulder County death toll to four. There is now 0 people reported missing in the county. 

The Boulder County Coroner's Office said they are investigating the death of Gerald Boland. The 80-year-old grandfather and former teacher was among those missing after the flooding in Lyons.

On the morning of the flood, Boland and his wife became separated. His wife got stuck in the high water and had to be rescued from her car. Boland's truck was found about two blocks from the couple's home.

Boland was a teacher at Lyons Elementary for three decades.

The bodies of two teenagers, 19-year-old Wiyanna Nelson and 19-year-old Wesley Quinlan, were recovered on Linden Road in Boulder after the floods.

The third victim, Joey Howlett, was killed when the building he was in collapsed during massive flooding in Jamestown.

Details of the fourth fatality are not known at this time.

Statewide, floods have killed seven people and 199 people remain unaccounted for.
