DENVER - The secret to a longer life and surviving cancer could be right around the corner or down the block. Take a walk or run and you will find it.

Several studies in recent years point to the connection between exercise and cancer survivorship. Early research noted the benefits for breast and colorectal cancer patients.

Oncologists say patients see many health benefits besides weight loss. Exercise helps patients deal with the side effects of cancer treatments which often include fatigue and depression.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus opened the Colorado Center for Health and Wellness to provide patients with the opportunity to make sustainable changes to achieve healthier lifestyles.

The National Cancer Institute points to data from more than 650,000 people and found those that exercised moderately at least 2.5 hours a week lived nearly 3 and a half years longer than those who never worked out.
