KUSA - The next time you visit Moby Arena for a basketball or volleyball game, don't beeline to straight to your seats. Instead spend some time on the newly remodeled south concourse.
CSU's athletics program goes back 135 years... so it's taken a while to put together a well rounded collection for the new Hall of Fame display at Moby Arena...
"Two years ago they started a whole redo on Moby Arena," explains John Hirn. "A year ago Colorado State University asked me to help them out and figure out what kinds of things we should have in a trophy case."
Volunteer athletic historian John Hirn was consulted on the project because he's been collecting many of these items for years. Now the CSU history major has a lot more room in his basement.
"I was able to collect different items from different athletes," says Hirn. "I called up (former CSU offensive lineman) John Laurita and he sent me his Freedom Bowl jersey. That's what helped us bring it all together, it's not just some of the things I've collected but other former athletes have brought them in as well."
The beautiful display is a looker. Some even get to marvel at themselves as many former athletes continue to support and attend sporting events at CSU.
"It's definitely one of those things that we really like to see everybody see things they've never seen before, that haven't been seen in 50 or 60 years, so they can understand more about our history and the tradition that we have here."
The exhibit will always be a work in progress with new items being added, like this year's Bronze Boot, and older items that have been found.
"We know there are jerseys, there are uniforms, there are balls, there are all types of thing sitting in people's houses that is our history that we want to bring back so we can show our tradition and pride.
