DENVER - 9Cares Colorado Shares feeds people. On Saturday, Nov16th, we collected enough donations to provide 586,000 meals to those who need help this holiday season. Thank you to everyone who donated canned food, clothing, toys or cash at any of our five metro locations, our 36 remote drop off sites, or through our partner King Soopers.
The breakdown for the five metro locations is as follows:
9NEWS collected 34,000 pounds and $8,308
Pima Medical Institute in Aurora collected 28,000 pounds and $5,383
Inverness Hotel & Golf Club collected 48,000 pounds and $8,445
Southwest Plaza collected 58,000 pounds of food and $15,000
American Furniture Warehouse in Thornton collected 54,000 pounds and $5,687
On Saturday, 9NEWS on-air talent were at all five locations helping collect donations and thanking the hundreds of individuals, the boy scouts troops, real estate groups, businesses and families who came out to give.
The food will be distributed within a week to approximately 100 food banks in the Denver Metro area through Food Bank of the Rockies. Clothing collected is taken and sorted by Goodwill Industries and ARC Thrift Stores. Based on the value of those items, we will receive vouchers for Goodwill and ARC Thrift Stores in exchange for the clothing. These vouchers are then distributed to clothing banks and closets in the Denver Metro area. All toys will go to the Santa Claus Shops to be given to families this holiday season. Money collected will be used to purchase food later in the year when the need is great.
King Soopers is continuing to sell the $5 or $10 Bringing Hope to the Table boxes. All money raised during the month of November will go to 9Cares Colorado Shares.
