DENVER - Denver police found the body of a man inside an apartment near Cheesman Park Thursday evening.
Police said the man took his own life. The body was discovered six hours after police were called to the Cheesman Park apartment for shots fired.
Police were waiting for a search warrant before entering the second-story unit at the apartment complex, located at 1077 N. Race St.
The man shot multiple rounds outside his unit before police were called. They believe he was not directing the bullets at anyone.
Police were attempting to contact the man immediately after arriving on scene.
People gathered to watch as swat officers surrounded the apartment building. Police blocked roads and stopped traffic.
Many residents were kept from their homes as they returned from work.
Police were able to gain access around 8 p.m. and found the man's body.
The man has not been identified.
