KUSA - If you are upset about the stunning Denver Broncos loss in Super Bowl XLVIII, you are not alone. Many Broncos fans are hurting emotionally the day after the big game.

9NEWS Psychologist Max Wachtel says there are several common reactions to expect from such a loss. It is not unusual to experience anger, sadness or anxiety after a disappointing showing from your favorite sports team.

Wachtel says many people will engage in what sports marketers refer to as "CORFing," or Cutting Off Reflected Failure.

In essence, diehard fans will react to a loss with anger, distancing themselves from the emotional hurt they are feeling. They might reject their team for a period of time, also. Social media confirms this behavior, with fans posting messages stating they are no longer fans, and that Peyton Manning's abilities were overhyped.

But, Wachtel reports sports marketers also know that after a brief period of CORFing, fans come back to the team, and they come back stronger than before. Wachtel says fans will be back in shape by the beginning of the next season and more dedicated than ever.

For those individuals who are struggling with their emotions after the loss, Wachtel says there is good news. There is nothing you need to do to recover from this disappointment. In a few days, everything will go back to normal.

He says to allow yourself to feel your emotions, know you'll be a stronger fan as a result of the loss, and try not to be a jerk.
