KUSA- The Colorado Avalanche went 3-0 Thursday in the Olympics.
Paul Stastny scored twice in the second period to lead Team USA over Slovakia 7-1 in their first game of the Olympic tournament. His two goals were part of a six-goal second period which the USA scored during a 13:51 span.
Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov lead the Russians to a 5-2 win against Slovenia. Varlamov faced just 14 shots in the opener. And later in the day, Avs forward Matt Duchene helped Canada to a 3-1 win over Norway.

Varlamov and Stastny will square off Saturday when the Americans face the Russians in a Group A game, which will be live at 5:30 a.m. on NBC Sports Network. On Sunday, Team USA faces Slovenia and Russia plays Slovakia to end the preliminary round.
Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog and the Swedes, who won their opener Wednesday, next play Friday against Switzerland then end pool play Saturday against Latvia. Duchene will play Friday against Austria and Sunday against Finland.
The men's qualifying round is Feb. 18; quarterfinals are Feb. 19; semifinals on Feb. 21; bronze-medal game is Feb. 22; and the gold-medal game is Feb. 23.
