DENVER - State lawmakers will debate a bill Monday that aimed at cracking down on cyber-bullying.
HB 1131 would create a class 2 misdemeanor for using online services to harass a child.
The crime would be added to the state law on harassment.
In order to meet the proposed standard the offense would have to be intended to "kill, injure, harass, or cause serious emotional distress" to the child, or place the child in "reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury."
The bill, sponsored by nine House Democrats, is scheduled for its first hearing the House education committee on Monday.
