3 charged with arson in Denver hash oil explosion

DENVER - Three people have been charged in connection to a Denver house explosion last Sunday.

The incident occurred on the 2900 block of Julian Street, near Lowell Blvd., when three people trying to make hash oil from marijuana caused an explosion.

Jeff Gabarek and Steve Donnel, both 39, and Scott Mitchell, 43, are each being charged with one count of fourth-degree arson.

Nobody was seriously injured; one person suffered minor burns. Authorities say they put an owner of a duplex next door in serious risk.

Authorities say that all three were present in the home, working with marijuana and butane at the time of the explosion.

Garbarek, Donnel and Mitchell were released on $5.000 bond each.

They will be advised of their charges April 9 in Denver County Court.
