Court documents released on July 8 say Moench opened fire on the officers because he wanted police to kill him. Moench reportedly told 911 dispatchers that he was armed with three guns and was ready to hurt people.

Police say Moench fired from the back of his truck when officers arrived at his home on July 5. One of the officers was shot through the windshield of his squad car, and a second was shot as she approached the home on foot.
