Automatic life sentence for man convicted of toddler's murder

KUSA - The man charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Greeley 2-year-old was found guilty on Tuesday.

John White was on trial for the death of Michael Lara, the son of White's then girlfriend.

His conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. He could also face an additional 48 years for the child abuse conviction.

White claimed the family's 60-pound Pit bull knocked the boy down the mobile home's porch steps, but medical experts testified Mikey had bruises to both sides of his head and back, burns to his lips and neck caused by a hairdryer and a wound to his penis.

He died several days later at Children's Hospital.

White's sentencing will be Dec. 16.
