Children were home alone when fire started, mom arrested

The woman is accused of leaving her children home alone when a fire broke out.

DENVER - A Denver mom has been arrested for investigation of felony child abuse after police say she left her two children home alone.

Rocio Arroyo-Reyes, 30, was arrested Thursday.

According to police, the kids were unsupervised when a fire started at the home in the 300 block of South Elliot Street on September 29. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police later determined that Arroyo-Reyes left her two young children home without proper supervision the morning the fire occurred.

According to the arrest affidavit, Arroyo-Reyes told police she had only been gone "five minutes" while she took medication to her oldest son at school.

Police said she returned to the home after a text informed her of the fire.

The cause has not been determined. Police said the injured children were discharged from the hospital on Oct. 7.
