CO Springs man sentenced to 27 years for child porn

KUSA - A Colorado Springs man was sentenced earlier this week to 27 years in prison for the production and distribution of child pornography, a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office said.

The case involved Richard Hennis, 41, and a co-defendant, Brandi Leonard. The two were first charged on March 11, 2016, and indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on April 5, 2016.

According to court evidence and public filings, Leonard told Hennis that she had sexually abused an infant, in a series of online chats that took place over the course of a month. Hennis encouraged her to do it again, while taking photos or video, and to send that to him.

Leonard did as he instructed, and the pictures were sent to another person Hennis talked to online. Law enforcement found the photos of the infant on Hennis’s phone.

Leonard and Hennis also chatted about kidnapping, raping, killing and dismembering a child between 4 and 8 years old. Leonard said twice during the chat that she didn’t intend to act on their idea.

Hennis pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Philip Brimmer on Nov. 21, 2016 and was sentenced April 19, 2017.

Leonard pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography April 13, 2017. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 21.

Following his prison term, Hennis is to serve 10 years of supervised release.
