Dog shot during burglary, reward offered

DENVER - A dog was shot during a recent burglary in Greenwood Village.  Now, police are looking to find justice for the dog, the Dumb Friends League said.

Polo is the 12-year-old Labrador retriever shot during the home invasion, and she was previously reported as expected to live. There is a GoFundMe to cover her medical costs, which has exceed the goal of $13,000.

As part of effort to encourage efforts to report animal cruelty and abuse, the Dumb Friends League and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers have teamed up to offer a reward of up to $7,000 for tips that lead to a summons or arrest in this case.

“Studies show that people who intentionally harm animals may be more likely to commit violent crimes towards people,” the news release said. “By taking the time to report what you observe, you’ll not only be helping the animal involved, you’ll be helping prevent future crimes and promoting respect for all life.”

Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867) or by using the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers mobile app.
