DPD apprehends man who crashed stolen car near 17th and Monaco

A man is in Denver Police custody after police say he crashed a stolen car and tried to run away from the scene.

A car was stolen from 29th Avenue and Jasmine Street around 11:30 a.m., police spokesman Doug Schepman said.

The stolen car was then crashed at East 17th Avenue and North Monaco Parkway, and the man behind the wheel ran away.

A police perimeter was set up in the 1600 block of Locust to contain the suspect, with police tweeting out to avoid the area.

The suspect was later taken into custody with K-9 help.

The man’s name has not been released.

Police are still on scene as it is an ongoing investigation.
