Aurora Police officer shot in northeast Denver

DENVER - An Aurora Police officer was shot Tuesday afternoon in northeast Denver. 

The incident started at 142 Del Mar Circle in Aurora. Police responded to reports that someone was shot. The victim was taken to a hospital where they later died.

Aurora Police learned that a suspect was in Denver. This led to a second scene in the 14500 block of East 46th Avenue, in the Montbello neighborhood.

According to police, the suspect came out of a home and a confrontation with police happened. The suspect in that shooting is dead.

Multiple sources say the Aurora Police officer was shot in the face, but has non-life threatening injuries. 

Sources tell 9Wants to Know a Denver Police officer took the injured Aurora Officer to the hospital.

Roads in the area were closed while police investigated.

The investigation is ongoing.

Nearby Oakland Elementary School was on lockout. A robocall went out to parents and a letter sent home with students Tuesday afternoon.
