AURORA - The driver who plowed into an Aurora daycare Wednesday afternoon – leaving a worker and two children injured – has been identified and faces multiple charges, including drug possession.
Aurora Police say Neco Benson was eluding police when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the front of Bright Stars Child Care at 1125 S. Havana Street.
“Just thank God no one got hurt seriously,” Masroor Farooqi, who owns the daycare, told 9NEWS. “Just thank God.”
Benson faces charges for vehicular eluding, possession of a controlled substance, driving while under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
Police say Benson was involved in a hit-and-run near East Yale Avenue and South Parker Road shortly before hitting the daycare. An Aurora officer later spotted his vehicle and tried to get it to stop, but Benson kept going, driving reckless through a parking lot, accelerating across Havana, hitting a parked vehicle and then plowing into the daycare.
He was arrested almost immediately.
“He only go maybe a foot out where – the two cops who were there, tackled him, pulled him down and he goes where he needs to,” Farooqi said.
The children and employee who were hurt sustained minor injuries, and are expected to be ok.
